Leonardo 3D Vision System used in first Advanced GI Oncology Course in Stereo 3D

Advanced 3D technology allows leap forward in training efficacy

October 15, 2013 (Pittsburgh, PA) - The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a 2013 US News and World Report Top 10 facility, recently provided the first Advanced GI Oncology Course utilizing stereo 3D imagery. The stereo 3D imagery was captured by REACH3D’s Leonardo 3D Vision System during surgical robot procedures performed at UPMC. The course creation was supported by MIS Solutions’ training professionals.

UPMC staff noted that there was a strong turnout of surgeons from across the country for the course. The ease of recording and editing, the high quality imagery and simplicity of operation of the REACH3D LEO 3D Vision System significantly enhanced the effectiveness of the course.

Pete Carnegie, CEO of MIS Solutions explained: “The course was a perfect opportunity to foster the kind of skill enhancement that MIS Solutions is dedicated to providing the rapidly growing global community of surgeons utilizing surgical robots”.

Utilizing the REACH3D LEO 3D Vision System provides the surgical staff, for the very first time, the same stereo 3D imagery that the surgeon sees (previously they were limited to 2D only viewing). The shared view enhances team communication and effectiveness while also allowing recordings of the procedure for later training and/or patient education. They system also provides the ability to enhance or diminish the 3D effect for the patient-side team.
